As the cricket season drew closer the Andy Northcote Cricket Academy hosted its first Easter T20 Camp at Woolpit Cricket Club. These camps were built around two key beliefs that we think are vital to accelerated player development: player-coach ratios and creating deep understanding. Both of which have a large impact on a player’s experience in the game.
11 boys turned up on day one and despite the cold were rearing to go. Put through their paces for the entire day, the boys were asked to demonstrate and hone their fundamentals; both in practice and verbally. This ensured what the 3 lead coaches delivered was driven home and understanding achieved. Having covered five 50-minute session on the day, all players left tired but excited for day two where they again experienced 3-1 player to coach ratio and opportunities to expand on their growing understanding of their games. Players then had to contend with live nets and mini-match situations.
All in all, the balance was perfectly struck between enjoyment, focus and learning; this camp truly set our bench mark for the summer. Most importantly, each player that attended left with a few nuggets that they can focus on to have a successful season.
